So, I, the hardened and frugal skincare junkie, who only ever dealt out real money for insanely cult classic products, and who sincerely believes in slow and steady wins the race, sprung for a Skin Laundry Laser & Light package. I was stunned: what the was I doing, spending money on skincare, when I could have been using some basic products and springing for some damn good lasers? The larger pores along my inner cheeks were shrunken down. Redness, who? PIH, what? They don’t live here anymore? The texture of my skin felt significantly smoother and softer, and my skin tone was noticeably evened out. These also might not be the cutest pictures, BUT THEY’RE ALL I HAVE LET IT GO. So the pictures above were taken about 24 hours apart. My nurse smiled, looking pleased, and said that to see results, I probably only needed to come in once a month for a treatment, at most twice. The redness was remarkably soothed and my skin even looked tighter. For good measure, I applied some of my favorite Nivea Sun Cream Care UV SPF50+ PA++++ (which is also such a nice sunscreen, it makes me so happy). My nurse removed the headband and goggles, gently applying a toner and the Skin Laundry Moisturizer with SPF 30 (which actually felt really nice, very gently fragranced and very comforting-feeling formula). There was a few flashes of bright light, like flashes from a camera, but I closed my eyes and had my goggles on, so no problems at all! Courtsey of Tenor. The gel helps protect the skin from the laser’s direct heat. My nurse covered my face in a cool gel (I’m think it’s ultrasound gel), and pressed the IPL machine to my forehead, my cheeks, my nose, and my chin. This part of the treatment isn’t at all painful. The IPL, short for Intense Pulse Laser, targets redness, pigmentation, and inflammation. If I had to rate it on a scale from 0 to 10, I would say it barely even squeaks to a 1. It’s kind of like a tiny baby elastic is being snapped very gently on your skin. There’s a slight crackling sensation over the skin (usually 2-3 passes). This laser is actually very, very mild in terms of discomfort: there’s a crackling sound (indicative of debris being vaporized) and the smell of something burning (also indicative of debris being vaporized). At this point of the treatment, my nurse pushed my hair back with a soft headband and put a pair of goggles on me. This part of the treatment happens at three different levels: level one is the gentlest, and level three is the strongest. The YAG Laser, short for nd:YAG laser, and even shorter for neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet laser (say that five times fast!) is used at a wavelength that can penetrate deeper levels of the dermis and both vaporizes debris in the skin and also stimulates collagen production. It’s broken down into two parts: the YAG laser and the IPL laser. Then, I was led to a treatment room at the end of the hall and my nurse cheerfully explained the procedure of the Laser & Light Facial. I didn’t ask why it’s probably to document where I’m starting at for future reference. The receptionist and the nurse were both very welcoming and friendly, offering me a Skin Laundry Purifying Cleansing Cloth to wipe my face off (I only had sunscreen on) and a cup of cool water for the summer heat.Ī few minutes after that, I was led to a short corridor and my nurse helped the receptionist take a few pictures of my face at three different angles in the light. Of the four locations available, I chose the Parker Hotel and arrived about ten minutes ahead of time of my scheduled appointment. Known for being 15 minutes long, with no downtime and instant results, I was rather skeptical of the Laser & Light Facial. And I must say, I am thoroughly impressed with the results.īack in early July 2019, I decided to take advantage of Skin Laundry’s incredible “first time is always free” trial facial. Noticing the lack of accessible, efficient, and affordable laser treatments in the US market after moving to LA, Reis decided open up Skin Laundry in 2013. Reis, who was living in Singapore when she started having hormonal acne after the birth of her third son, found a solution in Laser & Light treatments.

Lasers do not play.įounded by the stunning Yen Reis, Skin Laundry is the love child of the Asian and Western skincare philosophies.

I have long been a believer in the skin philosophy of slow and steady, until Skin Laundry decided to come in with their lasers because Holy.

(Full Disclosure: I don’t have many Skin Laundry pics, so this tale will be told with gifs and memes.)
